Robert Lee Metzer, fondly known as Bob, of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, with his family by his side at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Bob was born in Girard, Kansas, to Lester and Lily Mae (Machin) Metzer. His family later relocated to Dixon, Illinois, before settling in Coffeyville when Bob was just eleven years old. He attended Coffeyville schools and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School, later completing a year of college at CCC.
Bob’s remarkable career began in the 10th grade when he started working at a service station across from his high school. In 1971, he took a significant step by opening Bob’s Conoco Station, which later became known as Bob’s Service Station. For over 52 years, he dedicated himself to serving the community, earning a reputation for his honesty, fairness, and respect.
In 1958, Bob married Vonna Lee Argyle in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple enjoyed 66 wonderful years together, raising their daughters Rhonda and Lucinda in Coffeyville, where they also became longtime members of Tyro Christian Church.
Bob leaves behind a loving legacy that will be cherished by his wife, Vonna Lee, his daughters Rhonda Sanders and her husband Chuck, Lucinda Hopkins, grandchildren Heather Griswold, Nicholas Sanders, and Amanda Hopkins, and great-grandchildren Haley and Spence Morgan, and Kamdyn Segundo. He is also survived by his sisters Betty Vannoster, Wilma Griswold, and Beverly Minniaer. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Schneider.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 2 PM at Spring Hill Cemetery, located north of Coffeyville, with Don Elliott officiating.
