Robert Lloyd Brooks, 83, Coffeyville, Kansas, died early Sunday morning, August 8, 2010 at Windsor Place Care Center, Coffeyville. Robert was born December 8, 1926 at Wann, Oklahoma to Robert Lee Brooks and Mabel Elma Roberts Brooks. He grew up in northeastern Oklahoma and attended Wann schools. Robert was a member of the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, and received his discharge in 1951, upon the death of his father. Also in 1951, he married Helen Smallwood. The couple had one son and would later divorce. Robert was a truck driver for Logan Hodges in Tyro before his military service and hand been a carpenter, meat packer, and foundry worker for Acme and machinist for Jensen. After retiring from full time employment, he worked for Acme Foundry in the custodial department. Robert moved to Coffeyville in the late 1970s and was a member of Coffeyvilles First Baptist Church. He liked to fish and loved handy man work and keeping his grass mowed. He was a 40 member of American Legion Post 20, Coffeyville. Survivors include his exwife, Helen White of Albany, Oregon a son, Robert Lee Brooks, also of Albany one stepson, Larry Stierwalt of Dewey, Oklahoma five sisters, Elsie Fast and Ruth Walker of Coffeyville, Ida Lee Rosson and her husband, Buddy of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma Mary Hill of Coffeyville and Ruby Jo Browning and her husband, Stanley of Coffeyville four grandsons two stepgrandchildren three greatgrandchildren and three stepgreatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be held at, 10 a.m., Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville, with Dr. Wayne Norton, officiating. Service and interment are under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11, 9am8pm at the funeral home. The family will be on hand 68pm to receive friends. Those who wish may donate to Windsor Place Alzheimers units.
