Robert WilliamBill Urquhart, 86, Coffeyville, Kansas died Friday, June 17, 2011 at Medicalodge of Coffeyville. Bill was born August 11, 1924 at Red Wing, Oklahoma to Robert Urquhart and Nancy Avery Urquhart. He grew up in Red Wing, but Elgin, Kansas was the nearest post office. Bill graduated from Peru, Kansas High School in May of 1943. In August of the same year, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served at Portsmouth and Norfolk, Virginia Naval Hospitals and Bethesda Hospital, Washington, D.C. Bill received his honorable discharge June 1, 1946 and on May 16, 1947 married Dorothy Marie Howard at Caney, Kansas. The couple made their home in South CoffeyvilleCoffeyville area since 1947. Dorothy preceded him in death in January 2005. Bill held several positions at the Coop Refinery, retiring as a store room clerk in 1982, after 35 years on the job. He was a 28year member of American Legion Post 20. Bill loved fishing amp camping and did some farming in his younger days. He enjoyed a good joke and teasing his friends with his wit and humor. Survivors are three children, Janace Jones and her husband, Jerry of Wann, Oklahoma, Gloria Taylor and her husband, Carl of Federal Way, Washington and Rodney Keith Urquhart of the home one sister, Maxine Hannegan and her husband, Roger of Overland Park, Kansas 11 grandchildren 24 greatgrandchildren and six greatgreatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents by his wife and by a brother, Lee Urquhart. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville, under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel. Military rites will be presented by members of VFW Post 1022 amp American Legion Post 20. Memorial may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and can be left with the funeral home.
