Robert J. Ward, 76, Dearing, Kansas, died Wednesday morning, September 15, 2010 at Continuous Care Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Robert was born September 25, 1933 at Stella, Missouri to Ewell Robert Ward and Hazel Kathleen Nickelson Ward. He grew up in Kinsley, Kansas, graduating high school there. Robert met Evelyn Marie Rupe and on December 14, 1952, the couple was united in marriage at Kinsley and continued to make their home there for some time. Robert worked for the U.S. Postal Service, starting in Neodesha, Kansas then served as Postmaster at Thayer and Fredonia, Kansas, retiring from Fredonia. He was a member of the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene and Lions Club, for many years. Robert enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, riding his fourwheeler, and growing roses in his garden. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of the home three daughters, Linda Plisek of Dearing, Rhonda Miller and her husband, Bob, also of Dearing and Brenda Williams of Independence, Kansas one brother, Sherman L. Ward of Bowling Green, Kentucky one sister, Betty Sue Cozens of Las Vegas, New Mexico four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents by a son, Ronald Duane Ward and by two brothers, W.Dale Ward and Jerry D. Ward. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, with Pastor Jamie Regis officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donors choice these may be left with the funeral home.
