Rosa Archer, 87, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at her home in Tulsa. Rosa was born January 1, 1923 at Corato, Bari, Italy to Pascuali Abbatista and Felicia Ventura Abbatista. She grew up in Corato, on the southeastern coast of Italy, and graduated from college, there. Rosa began teaching school and then, during World War II, became an interpreter for the U.S. Army. She met her future husband, Jack Otis Archer, while working as an interpreter. Jack reenlisted two more times so he could stay in Italy until Rosas papers were finished to come to America. The couple married in January of 1946 in Corato. Upon the completion of Jacks military service, the Archers moved to his hometown of Coffeyville and lived with her loving inlaws until they could build a home in the Edgewood Addition. The energetic Rosa taught herself to sew and made everything from drapes to wedding gowns. Because of her proficiency in five different languages, she tutored college students in Latin. The Archers moved to Tulsa in 1964 and have lived there, since. Rosa is survived by her son, Danny J. Archer of Tulsa two daughters, Vanda A. Starr and her husband, Gary, of Tulsa and Neena M. Carouthers of Fort Myers, Florida four grandchildren, Anna Riddell, Ricky Starr, Jordan Williams and Valerie Carouthers two greatgrandchildren, Mason and Aedan two sisters, still living in Italy and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Jack, in 1984. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 4 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Interment is in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9am 5pm, Thursday and until 1pm, Friday to sign the register book.
