Ruby Heady

Ruby Ruth Heady, age 98 passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at her home in Coffeyville, Kansas with a friend by her side.

Ruby was born on January 5, 1924, in Concordia, Kansas to Harvey Dale and Opal (Franklin) Pierce.

October 24, 1942, Ruby married the love of her life Warren G. Heady making their home in Coffeyville. Shortly after their marriage and World War II began, Warren entered the US Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific before he thankfully returned home to his wife in 1946.  Warren and Ruby had four children, Warren D., Susan, Debra, and William “Bill” Dean.

Ruby was the most caring and loving daughter, wife, mother, “Nanny” grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.  She dedicated much of her life to being a loving and nurturing homemaker and caregiver to many, never expecting anything in return.  She volunteered for two to three years at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in the nursery to rock and love newborn babies.  When her mother, Opal Franklin Holdbrook became ill she provided the best of care for her. Later her husband Warren’s health declined, and she cared for him until his death in September of 2003. Ruby faced so many challenges but helping care for all four of her adult children when they became ill prior to their passing was some of the most difficult.  A mother having to bury her children is something no one ever wants to have to do.

A woman of Faith, strength, adversity, dedication, determination, loving, and compassion are just a few of the adjectives that can be used to describe Ruby. She gave everything she could in this life and is now able to rest and rejoice in the presence of her Heavenly Father.  Joe Humble, her honorary son who cared for her until her death along with Brenda Grigg, and others cherish the life she shared with them; her grandchildren that are left behind are Steve Heady of Iola, Darren Heady and wife Cathy of Coffeyville, Kelly Ellis and husband Tim of Tulsa, William McCool of Seattle, Washington, Cale Heady of Wichita; great grandchildren, Bryce Heady of Iola, Kyle, Audra, Lydia, Julia, Sara, Braden and Haile Heady of Coffeyville, Ethan Ellis of Tulsa.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. sons Warren Dale and William “Bill” Dean Heady, daughters, Debbie Ott, and Susan K. McCool and one granddaughter Meagan Heady.
