Coffeyville resident Ruby Lee Kristy died February 7, 2007 in Joplin, Mo. She was 83. She was born on August 10, 1923 in Independence, Kansas to Loren Lester and Georgia Lee Carpenter Prescott. She grew up and attended school in Independence, Kansas and graduated from Independence High School. She later married Lloyd F. Jackson. Mr. Jackson was serving in the United States Calvary and he died of heart failure at an early age. She later married to Edward Gillman. The couple farmed and raised cattle. After Mr. Gillman died, Ruby moved to Coffeyville and worked at McKinley School. Later she moved to Pennsylvania where she met and married James Kristy. Ruby drove a school bus for many years. When the couple retired, they returned to Coffeyville, bought a farm and raised cattle. After he passed away Ruby moved into town and became a huge member and supporter of the Senior Citizen Activity Center in Coffeyville. She loved to play cards, bingo, dominos and enjoyed dancing. She had many friends at the center and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the AARP. Ruby is survived by her loving daughter Helen Garner of Coffeyville, granddaughters Jackie and husband Glen Everett, Sherry Messner, Tammy and husband Danny Christmore, Julie Northup and Tina and husband Dave Beeson all of Coffeyville. There are 11 Great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, four brothers, a sister and a grandson Robert McBeath, Jr. The rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, February 11, 2007 in the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 12, 2007 in the Calvary Cemetery in Independence. Father Jerome Spexarth will officate. Friends may call on Saturday, February 10, 2007 from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm and Sunday, February 11, 2007 from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm to sign the guest register at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
