Ruth Gifford Cavender Ruth Alberta Gifford Cavender of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Caney, KS, died Friday evening, November 16, 2007, at the Florence Home in Omaha. She was 85. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at the First Christian Church in Caney under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Fu-neral Home of Coffeyville. Brad Sanders will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney. The family will receive friends from noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the church prior to the funeral service. The daughter of Oscar J. and Sadie Lee Roland, she was born January 27, 1922, in What Cheer, Iowa. She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1939. She later at-tended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, IA. Ruth was united in marriage to Willard Wilson Gifford on April 18, 1947, in Des Moines. After purchasing a local insurance agency, later known as the Gifford-LaForge Insurance Agency, the couple moved to Caney, KS, in 1971 from South Dakota. Ruth served as the office manager of the agency for a number of years until she retired and was also a homemaker. Mr. Gifford preceded her in death on June 11, 1983. She married Joseph Cavender in 1996 in Caney and he preceded her in death. Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church in Caney, the Fraternal Order of the Eastern Star, Jewell Chapter 105, and the Caney Historical Society. Survivors include two daughters, Janice Ebmeier and her husband Chuck of Hutchin-son, KS, and Judi Dickmeyer and her husband Michael of Omaha, NE; one son, Edward Gifford and his wife June of Manhattan, KS; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lee Roland; and one grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Caney.
