Ruth Etta Johnson, 98, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Ruth was born on March 21, 1916 in rural Caney, Kansas to Charles and Allie (Pigg) Morrow. She grew up in the rural Caney area and graduated from Caney High School. Ruth continued her education and earned her Associate Degree from Coffeyville Community College. On July 25, 1937 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, O.B. Otis Johnson in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where Ruth worked as a receptionist for Dr. J. M. Dickerson for many years. She also worked as a social worker for the State of Kansas for 15 years until her retirement.
Ruth was a member of the Westside Christian Church and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and crafts of all kinds, as well as tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Most of all she enjoyed her time with her family and friends.
Surviving to honor her memory are her son, Ronald "Ron" Johnson of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Roxanne Lieurance and husband, Mark, Christy Hilderbrand and husband, Clinton, Kim Price, Brian Coldren and wife, Barbara, Melissa Roberts; ten great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, O.B. Otis Johnson; parents, Charles and Allie; her dear daughter, Patricia Gunderson; granddaughter, Lori Gilmore; brother, Ivan Morrow and two sisters, Letha Morrow and Bessie Smith.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Westside Christian Church in Coffeyville. Pastor Mike Elrod will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions can be made payable to the Age to Age Learning at Windsor Place; these may be left with the funeral home.
