Ruth Lorene Martin Funeral Services for Ruth Lorene Martin have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel at 2405 Woodland in Coffeyville, Kansas. Rev. Tony Penn will officiate. Burial will follow in Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville. Ruth Lorene Martin was born March 20, 1923 in Lenapah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Evans William and Lois Irene Higginson Ferrell. Mrs. Martin died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Martin was a 1941 graduate of Labette County High School in Altamont, Kansas after which, she received her Teachers Certificate. She married Arthur Floyd Martin on December 16, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland where Mr. Martin was stationed during WWII. Following his discharge after serving in Iceland and Europe, they returned to Clay City, Illinois where Mr. Martin worked for Pure Oil Company. In 1952, they returned to Coffeyville where Mr. Martin began employment with the Ozark Smelting and Mining Division of Sherwin-Williams. He retired as a carpenter in 1976. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1987. For most of her life, Mrs. Martin was a homemaker. In addition to teaching school, she was a telephone operator in Coffeyville, Kansas and Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Broken Arrow in 1993 from Coffeyville. She enjoyed bowling and playing golf and was a member of the Womens Golf Associations at Hillcrest Golf Club, Coffeyville Country Club and Indian Springs Country Club of Broken Arrow. She was a past member of the VFW Post 1022 Womens Auxiliary and the Dearing Kansas Christian Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Beth John Muns of Big Cabin, OK; Monte Tom Faires and Barbara Tony Tyer all of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Shane Hawkins, Monica Mullins, John Muns, Jr., Lincoln Alwood and Megan Alwood; 2 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 9 step great-grandchildren; four sisters, Cora Bayes and Donna Cook, both of Coffeyville, KS, Jean Joe Frazier of Broken Arrow, OK and Jane Larry Armstrong of Locust Grove, OK. She was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Williams, Rose Spencer, Margaret Backes and brothers, Donald and Howard Ferrell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in Coffeyville, Kansas or to the donors local Salvation Army. Visitation Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabels Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville.
