Samuel Marshall Christian, Jr., 86, Coffeyville, Kansas died Monday, November 16, 2009 at Windsor Place Care Center in Coffeyville. Sam was born March 24, 1924 at Mayview, Missouri to Samuel Christian, Sr. and Casse May Sylva Christian. He grew up in Missouri and received his education in the Holden schools. Sam went to work at a young age and worked for 50 years in demolition and as a heavy equipment operator, all around the world. In 1963, he married Delores Richardson and the couple had five children, before their
orce. Sam came to Coffeyville from Kansas City, Missouri in 2005. He was of the Baptist faith and loved to hunt and fish, before his health made it impossible. Survivors are two sons, Mark Christian and his wife, Pamela of Coffeyville and Stanley Marshall Christian of Independence, Kansas; one daughter, Linda Louise Christian of White Oak, Oklahoma; an ex-wife, Delores Hayes of Mound Valley, Kansas; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; by two sons, Michael William and James Edward Christian; by two brothers and five sisters. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Interment will be in Oak Forest Cemetery, Norwood, Missouri, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Friends who wish may donate to the Alzheimer Foundation in care of the funeral home.
