Sarah E. Burge, 93, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Monday morning, September 21, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Centers Skilled Nursing Facility. Sarah was born February 27, 1916 at Kusa, Oklahoma to Arthur E. Smith and Hattie Coplin Smith. She came to Coffeyville as a child and completed her education there, including attending Coffeyville Community College. Sarah married Turner Burge on November 7, 1936 at Independence, Kansas. Mr. Burge preceded his wife in death on March 1, 1986. Sarah worked as bookkeeper for Jensen International, Inc. for 37 years, retiring 1980. She was a member of Coffeyvilles First Baptist Church; EHU; AARP; Order of Eastern Star; Bonded Secretaries of America and The Loyal Workers. Survivors are three nephews, Sammy Burge of Coffeyville, Randy Nicolas of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Steve Nicolas of Phoenix, Arizona; two nieces, Joan Rogers of Topeka, Kansas and Dalene Nelson of Sun City, Arizona; great-nephews, Perry Rogers of Topeka, Cliff Nelson of Seattle, Washington, Andy Nelson of Phoenix and Mike Nelson of Seattle; great-nieces, Becky Roeckers of Topeka, Marjorie Woodford of Wickenburg, Arizona, Nicki Nelson of Mesa, Arizona and Amy Phelps of Scottsdale, Arizona. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by one brother, Alvin Smith and by three sisters, Marjorie Nicolas, Grace Terrell and Frances Burley. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Coffeyvilles First Baptist Church and donations may be left at the funeral home.
