Shirley Jean Roberts, 85 years of age, of Coffeyville, Kansas peacefully entered into Eternity with her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 1, 2021. The next youngest of eleven children, she was born to William Frank II and Daisy Mae (Knisley) Cook of Coffeyville, Kansas where she attended the Whittier Grade and Field Kindley High Schools. She met and married Willard Lee Shinn of Fredonia, Kansas in 1951 and later had two children: a son (Willard Lee Shinn II) and daughter (Karen Kay Glazier). Following a divorce, in 1972 she re-married John Virgil Frye of Caney, Kansas having three sons; Mike, Terry and Marty. They were happily married until John’s death in 1993.
Shirley met James D. “Jimmy” Roberts of Coffeyville in August of 1997 having two sons and a daughter: Shawn, Ken and Wahnee. The two of them married on December 30, 1999. She and Jimmy enjoyed many happy years together at their country home near Coffeyville until Jimmy’s passing on March 9, 2020. They loved and enjoyed their lives together on the ranch; managing the land, raising cattle and horses, yet they loved their family more. After Jimmy’s passing, she moved from the country to Edmond, Oklahoma to be near her daughter Karen and son-in-law Danny Glazier.
A devoted wife and mother, she loved the Lord. Raised in the church, she lived a good Christian life; instilling Christian values, character and a strong work ethic in her children. She was talented as a poet, artist, calligrapher, decorator and designer, seamstress and hobby crafter. During her younger years she successfully competed in league and tournament bowling. Later, she learned, enjoyed and excelled at playing both “four-player partnership” and “duplicate” Bridge and played them many years.
She was an excellent homemaker, housekeeper and cook. She was smart, yet wise and level-headed. Many sought her council, advice and comfort. She was humble and never spoke of her gifts or talents, though she was proud of her children and grandkids. More importantly, she loved the Lord, loved and cherished her husband, children, and family with a passion.
Her survivors include her son Willard “Will” Shinn II and wife Christina of Opelika (AL), and daughter Karen Glazier and husband Danny of Edmond (OK); step-sons Mike (Brenda) Frye of Caney (KS), Terry (Pam) Frye of Tyro (KS), and Marty (Tammy) Frye of Wann (OK); Shawn (Christie) Roberts of Bartlesville (OK), Ken (Mary) Roberts of South Coffeyville (OK), and step-daughter Wahnee (Jesus) Jasso of Tulsa (OK).
