Sonja Payden

Sonja Charlene(Sunny) Payden age 76 passed away on January 18, 2018 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.

Sonja was born on February 9, 1942 in Coffeyville to Noel Rufus and Madeleine Blanche (Mosteller) Mayfield. She attended local Coffeyville Schools. Right out of school she met Emerald Dale Payden and the couple was united in marriage on February 17, 1958. Sonja found employment with the Caney Box Factory, she was the floor manager at TG&Y, she was manager for KFC, and she was night clerk for the Townsman Motel, her greatest career was raising her children. Sonja loved being a mother and a wife and when the grandchildren started arriving her joy only tripled. She was the glue that bonded the family together, a true matriarch, the one everybody turned to. But they also knew she wouldn't think twice about lining one of them out. Sonja enjoyed reading, camping, bowling, ice skating, swimming, and crocheting. She not only enjoyed crocheting, she was very skilled in the art and made afghans for everyone. It was part of her nature, she always worried about everybody. Sonja had a house at Grand Lake and she loved the times spent there.

Sonja's memories will live on through her children, Emerald Douglas Payden his wife Donna, Noel Richard, Jeffrey Dale his significant other Lori, brother, William
David Mayfield his wife Jami, sisters, Patricia Marie Ervin, Carol Ann "Kay" Boswell and Sondra Felts Mayfield, 14 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

She now rests with her parents, her husband Emerald Dale Payden, son, Ronald Ray Payden, daughter, Rhonda Gay Follis, brothers Clifford Dale and Robert Leroy Mayfield, sisters Betty June Lowder and Clara Jean Davis.
