Stephen Michael Vaughn of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma died at his home early Sunday morning, August 10, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. He was 62. He always had hope, even on the day he left; he believed he could beat it. He kept a smile and a twinkle in his eye. Stephen was born May 10, 1946 to Ivan and Geraldine Vaughn. He graduated from Labette High School in 1964. In 1965 he moved to California where he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1966-1967. In December of 1967 he was united in marriage to Flora Irene Keifer. They had two sons before moving to Kansas in 1973. Stephen tried many professions including farming, and running a gas station with his dad that turned into a Tavern. He found his calling in fire sprinkler protection. He enjoyed coaching his sons baseball teams for twelve years. His sons and grandsons were his pride and joy. He was a giving and loving man. Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Flo, of the home; sons, Erick of Broken Arrow, Michael and wife, Missy, of San Diego, CA; grandsons, Griffyn and Noah; sisters, Teena and Becky; brothers, David Nick and Heath; several nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved immensely. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Northeast of Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the University Of Iowa Department Of Urology for bladder cancer research in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home
