Coffeyville resident Stephen Richard Volk passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his home. He was 60. Steve was born November 15, 1948 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Jack and Donnette Hicks Volk. He grew up and attended Coffeyville schools, graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School. He graduated from McFarland Trade School as a machinist and also as an electrician. In 1970 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he did two tours in Vietnam as a highly decorated soldier. He completed his service with an honorable discharge in 1978. He worked fifteen years at Parmac and worked about twenty years and retired from Jensen as a machinist. On March 29, 1991 he married Rae Wisely in Coffeyville, Kansas. Steve enjoyed watching sports, visiting with friends and relatives, and gathering with friends to pass the time. Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Rae of the home; son, Ric Peggy Volk of Humble, Texas; step children, Harold Brooks of Coffeyville, Kansas, Jack Wilbanks, Teresa Smith of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Dan Yvonne Volk of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; grandsons, Michael Volk of Humble, Texas, Tyler Lewis of Coffeyville, Kansas, Rodney Cox of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughters, Tina Payden, Kim Justin Knight, great-granddaughters, Taylor Volk of Humble, Texas; Mercedes Payden of Coffeyville, Kansas; great-grandsons, Ethan Payden, Travis Knight of Coffeyville, Kansas; nieces, Holly Shawn Westervelt of Andover, Kansas, Julie Scott Griffin of Nixa, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Donnette Volk of Coffeyville. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Chaplain Mike Graham will officiate. Military Honors will be provided. Friends may call on Friday, December 19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabels Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Memorial contributions can be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.
