Sue Carol Carpenter age 79, of Coffeyville, passed away on December 3, 2016 at St Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
Sue was born on April 21, 1937, in Mooreland, OK, to Wilbur and Dorothy (Wheeler) Burdick. She attended local schools and graduated from Mooreland High School. She continued her education at Oklahoma State University and earned her Bachelor's Degree in education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. After earning her degree, Sue was united in marriage to Roger Carpenter in August of 1958 and they were blessed with two sons. They later divorced. Sue began her career in education teaching elementary school in Hugoton, Liberal, and Wichita. Sue settled down in Coffeyville where she took some time off from teaching so she could focus on her children and being the best mother possible. She returned to teaching elementary school full time in 1984 in Dearing, KS until the school closed. She then taught at Longfellow in Coffeyville until retiring in 1998. Sue was an avid reader throughout her life and an active member in the PEO. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a huge fan of KU basketball and Kansas City Royals baseball. She also loved the local sports teams, always checking the scores of the Golden Tornado and the Ravens. She set aside time for bridge with her friends and always enjoyed spending time with her sons and grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory are, her sons Brent Carpenter of Lawrence, KS. and Neal Carpenter of Dallas, TX., brother Larry Burdick and his wife Betty of Pryor, OK., grandchildren, Kyle Carpenter, Kristen Zacharias her husband Felix, and Kelly Stremel, great-grandson Lucas Zacharias, nephews, Kevin Burdick his wife Melanie, Keith Burdick his wife Cathy, and niece Karen Venamon her husband Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville, with Pastor Nicole Schwartz-Eck officiating. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
A private family interment will take place on Friday December 9, 2016 at Mooreland Cemetery in Mooreland, OK.
