Susie Akerberg

Susie R. Akerberg Susie Rosalea Gray Akerberg of Coffeyville, KS, died Friday, August 24, 2007, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was 74. The daughter of Pleas Floyd and Eva Emaline White Shamblin, she was born October 17, 1932, in Coffeyville, KS. She lived here all her life and received her education in Coffeyville schools. She married Raymond Gray, Sr. in Coffeyville. He preceded her in death in 1959. She later married Nels Akerberg in Wichita, KS. He preceded her in death in 1993. Mrs. Akerberg was a cook for Medicalodges for a number of years. She was a member of Southview Church of God. One of her favorite pastimes was caring for her family. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at the Veteran39;s Memorial Patio in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Friends may call to register Monday from noon-9 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Survivors include four sons, Lester Gray of Coffeyville, Allen Hiebert of Ottawa, KS, Jerry Hiebert of Canton, KS, and Tim McHugh of Louisiana; one daughter, Colleen Hufferd of Coffeyville; one brother, John Floyd Shamblin of California; two sisters, Merriam Smith and Helen Sumpter, both of Coffeyville; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one son, Jim Gray Sr.; one brother, Clarence; one sister, Darlene; and one grandson.
