Terry W. Carter Terry W. Carter of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Coffeyville. He was 64 years old. Terry was born on February 3, 1943 in Coffeyville to Charles Murle and Ruth Naomi Smart Carter. He attended Coffeyville schools graduating from Garfield Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and Field Kindley High School. He also graduated from Coffeyville Junior College and Emporia State University. In 1963, he married Carol Exum. They later
orced. They had two children, Paula K. Carter of Rogers, Arkansas and T.C. Carter and wife, Nisha, of Southlake, Texas. In 1983, Terry married Deborah Kendrick. She survives of the home. Deborah has one daughter, Carissa Kendrick Slavin and husband, Marc, of Coffeyville. Mr. Carter has three grandchildren, Katie Kennedy, Nicholas Slavin and Zachary Slavin. Terry has been employed with Carter Automotive Warehouse since 1966, purchasing the business in 1973. Civic activities include being active in the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce beginning in 1973 on the Government Affairs Committee and serving on the Coffeyville City Planning and Zoning Commission for three years. He is also a member of the Coffeyville Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of the Automotive Wholesalers Association of Missouri and Kansas for ten years, serving as chairman in 1992 and 1993. He traveled to Iowa and Nebraska Automotive Wholesalers Associations and facilitated their mergers to create a four state association, the largest geographically in the United States at that time. Terry served as vice-president of the associations insurance trust and helped develop an independent health insurance program for members. He returned to the Board of Directors at their request in 2002 to help facilitate the further merger with the Automotive Wholesalers of Texas, which ultimately resulted in the combining of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas and New Mexico. Mr. Carter served on the Board of Trustees of Coffeyville Regional Medical Center from 1991 to 2001 and as Board Chairman for eight years. He oversaw the transition from a city owned hospital to a stand-alone 501 C3 corporation and served as Chairman of the Board. He was awarded the Outstanding Trustee of the Year by the Kansas Hospital Association in 1996 and was inducted into the CRMC Hall of Fame in 2003. Terry was a member of the Keystone Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. amp; A.M. of Coffeyville, Kansas, serving as Master in 1994; the Euclid Masonic Lodge 2 Prince Hall of Topeka, Kansas; Adams Lodge 63 of Oswego, Kansas, serving as Master in 2006; a 32nd degree member of the York Rite Bodies of Independence, Kansas; a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason at the Fort Scott, Kansas Consistory; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter of Coffeyville, Kansas; a member of the Mizra Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Pittsburg, Kansas; and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 95 of Pittsburg, Kansas. Since 2000, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita, Kansas, a continuous care retirement facility providing independent and assisted living, skilled nursing and Alzheimer care, serving as Board President since 2002. He greatly enjoyed camping and bass fishing, spending many days on area lakes. An avid gardener with a vegetable garden and many potted and permanent plants, he was always trying different varieties every year. He particularly enjoyed raising and training American Eskimo dogs. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, June 10, 2007 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the CRMC Foundation or to the Keystone Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. amp; A.M. of Coffeyville.
