Thelma "Jean" Harrington, 87, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Jean was born on July 10, 1930 near Lenapah, Oklahoma to Walter and Betty (Mayes) Jordan. She grew up in the South Coffeyville, Oklahoma area and attended school and graduated from Lenapah High School. After high school she attended Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
On March 4, 1949 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jerold Harrington in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma where the couple made their home. Jean made a home for her husband and three daughters. Later on she was elected City Clerk of South Coffeyville where she was employed for several years. She then worked for Medicalodge until she retired. She was a member of the Trinity Full Gospel Church in Nowata, Oklahoma, as well as an active member of the Campers and Friends Camper Club. Jean also served as treasurer for Emmanuel Chapel Church in South Coffeyville for over twenty years.
Jean was very active in sports in her youth and as a senior in high school, played for state championship in basketball. She enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and water skiing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Surviving to honor her memory are her daughters, Cheryl Young and husband, Lloyd of Georgetown, Kentucky; Susan DeHaven, and husband David of Lawton, Oklahoma; and Terrie Hayes and husband Keith of rural Coffeyville; grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Jill, Jamie, Nathan, Lisa, Todd, and ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerold, her parents Walter and Betty, her brothers Frank and Roy Jordan, and her sisters Ruby Davis and Opal Richardson.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Jimmy Harrington will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 31 from noon to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Age-to-Age Kindergarten class at Windsor Place.
