Thomas W.Bud Johnston, 77, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday evening, September 18, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Bud was born on June 5, 1933 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Raymond F. and Effie A. Head Johnston. He was raised in Coffeyville where he graduated high school and attended some local college classes. On August 7, 1959 he was united in marriage to Emma J. Bryan. The couple made their home in Coffeyville and of that union three children were born. From 1953 to 1955 Bud was enlisted and served in the United States Army. He was a lifetime member of the local American Legion and the V.F.W. Post 1022 he was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. He worked for 37 years at Farmland Refinery in Coffeyville until his retirement in 1993. Survivors include his wife, Emma of the home sons, Dale Johnston and wife Jenni of Wichita, Kansas, Tom Johnston of Phoenix, Arizona daughter, Barbara Osborn and husband Tim of Iola, Kansas brother, Larry D. Johnston of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Effie and a brother, Ralph David Johnston. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 1:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Avenue of Flags for Coffeyville or the Special Olympics, these may be left with the funeral home.
