Thomas C. Lay, 65, Coffeyville, KS, died Thursday morning, January 28, 2010 at his home. Tom was born September 20, 1944 at Hutchinson, Kansas to Clifford Lay and Orpha Jackson Lay. He moved with his family to Independence, Kansas and grew up there. Tom was a graduate of Independence High School and had attended Independence Community College. He served in the U.S. Army, being Honorably Discharged in 1968. He married Cheryl Jaggers on June 21, 1969 in Coffeyville. Tom worked for Coffeyville Resources, since 1973, as the Top Operator of the CATALKY Unit. He was a member of Coffeyvilles Trinity United Methodist Church. Tom enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, with his grandson, Thomas. He was into all kinds of outdoor activities and loved spending time with his grandkids. When Tom was younger, he enjoyed boating and water skiing. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl, of the home one daughter, Becky Cox of Coffeyville a sister, Helen Kircher and her husband, Charles of Grove, Oklahoma three grandchildren, Thomas, Robin and Alisa Cox one greatgrandson, Austin Foster and a greatgrandchild on the way three nieces four nephews and the loving, family pet, Buddy, as well as a host of friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Carol Sue Boyle Godwin. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Passwater officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyvilles Restlawn Cemetery, under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 8pm, Tuesday. Family will receive friends from 68 pm, Tuesday at PenwellGabel Funeral Home. Donations to either, Trinity United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice are appreciated and may be left with the funeral home.
