Rural Coffeyville resident, Velda Pearl Allen died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was 87. Velda was born September 2, 1920 to Grover and Dora Houdasheldt Patterson in Walnut, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Walnut and Mound Valley, Kansas. She later married Albert H. Allen. Velda was employed by the Coffeyville Journal and later Kopco of Caney, Kansas, where she retired. After her retirement, she enrolled in Coffeyville Community College and received her G.E.D. in May of 1998 at the age of 78. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, fishing, cooking and most of all visiting with family. Velda is survived by her sons, Howard W. Allen and wife, Bonnie, of Grain Valley, Missouri, Franklin L. Allen and wife, Kay, of Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenney R. Allen and wife, Sharon, of Liberty, Kansas; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; brother, Harold E. Patterson and wife, Thelma; sister-in-law, Carole Patterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert H. Allen; three brothers; one sister and one grandson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale. Friends may call on Friday, December 28, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation. These may be left with the funeral home.
