Vettra Horn

Vettra J. Horn, 57, formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Vettra was born on October 2, 1955 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Elmo O. Horn and Marjorie Davis Horn. She grew up in Coffeyville where she graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School. She went on to attend Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma.

Vettra was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and Friendly 2nd Baptist in Wellington, Kansas. She worked for the State of Kansas and Maximus in Child Support Enforcement for nearly 20 years, and later as a dispatcher for Animal Control in Atlanta, Georgia. Her career took her from Wellington in the late 80s, Wichita in the early 90s, Kansas City in the late 90s, and Atlanta Georgia in the early 00s.

Vettra was proud of her children and her rootsfor Vettra there was no such thing as a distant relativeeveryone was family and she made sure she reminded her children of that. Whether it was a third cousin in Alaska or a sister 3 hours away we are all likely to get a call. Family was family

Something Vettra always wished for was hope and successand none more so than for those she loved, especially family.

Surviving to honor her memory are her sons, Michael A. Horn of Lithonia, Georgia, Christopher C. Horn and fianc Chrissy Elder of Colorado Springs, Colorado daughter, Dawn E. McClinton and husband, Jonathan of Raytown, Missouri granddaughters, Mikayla A. McClinton and Jayla E. McClinton of Raytown, Missouri, and a sister Gayle C. McPherson and husband Larry of Winfield, Kansas. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo O. Horn and Marjorie Davis Horn son, Markham E. Horn brother, Oscar C. Horn and a sister, Karen L. Freeman.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Rev. Jeff Bruce will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register.
