Virginia W. Chesney, 105, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Windsor Place Care Center, Coffeyville. Mrs. Chesney was born June 23, 1905 at Coffeyville to E.E. Wettach and Cora Avard Wettach. She attended grade school in Coffeyville and Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. Virginia attended college at the University of Missouri. She married Karl Portman Chesney in Mexico City in 1931. Mr. Chesney worked for Ford Motor Company and the couple transferred to Detroit until his service in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. The couple returned to Mexico City after Mr. Chesney military service and later moved to Havana, Cuba until his retirement from Ford International in 1961. The Chesney came to Coffeyville in 1972, where Virginia has resided since. Mr. Chesney preceded her in death in 1972. Virginia was a homemaker, who also did volunteer work for organizations, such as the American Red Cross. Mrs. Chesney has no immediate family surviving her. Private services were held for Mrs. Chesney and she was laid to rest, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Coffeyvilles Fairview Cemetery under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel.
