Virtha Lois Gilmore MoonPadgett, age 91, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at CRMC. Virtha was born on December 17, 1919 in Chanute, Ks to John and Virtha Scantlin Gilmore. She grew up in the Chanute area, attending Neosho County Little Friend School. She graduated from Chanute High School, and attended Central Business College at Kansas City, Missouri for two years. She was a graduate of Coffeyville and Mount Caramel Nursing School at Pittsburg, Ks. She joined the Navy WAVES and served as a Pharmacists Mate during WWII at Corpus Christi, Texas and on detached duty at Camp Detrick in Fredrick, Maryland. She married Earnest L. Moon on February 9, 1947 in Urbana, Ks and made their home in Coffeyville. He preceded her in death in October 1966. She later married Ollie V. Padgett on April 2, 1982 in Coffeyville, Ks. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1944. Virtha worked in various places, among them McCune of Finney at Chanute, Neosho County Clerk at Erie, Automotive Control Corporation at Independence, CoOp Refinery, Pepsi Bottling Co. and Dr. Beines Office in Coffeyville. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Womens Military Service for America and American Legion. She is survived by her sons, Frank Moon and wife, Shirley of Kearney, Missouri, Dick Padgett of Bartlesville, Oklahoma brothers, Jim Gilmore and wife, Marge of Spokane, Washington, Keith Gilmore and wife, Louise of Starkville, Mississippi eight grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virtha two husbands, Earnest L. Moon, Ollie V. Padgett sons, James E. Moon, Jack Padgett brother, John L. Gilmore one grandson and one granddaughter. Graveside services will take place on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fairview Veterans Patio. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church of Coffeyville, or a charity of your choice. These may be left with the funeral home.
