Walter Booth

Walter Carl Booth, 84, of rural Coffeyville passed away peacefully at his home July 24, 2022, with his wife Jan by his side.  Walt was born January 4, 1938, in Ashland, KS to Noble C. and Ruth (Rainey) Booth.  The family lived in Ashland for a time and then moved to Caney, KS.  Walt attended Caney schools, graduating from Caney Valley High School in 1956.

During his life, Walt never shied away from hard work.  He worked in farming and ranching, drove trucks for Coca-Cola bottling, helped his brother-in-law Gene Cranor at auctions, worked at Olin-Dixon, Pressure Cast, Prestige Cabinets, Cessna, Tindle Construction, and Thayer Cabinets until he finally retired when he was 76.  He played hard too, going on the Pawhuska Cavalcade for several years and trying his hand at bull riding.  One year at the Coffeyville Rodeo, Walt & his brother-in-law George Cowan even gave wild cow milking a shot!

Walt married Deanna Allison in Caney, KS on April 18, 1958.  They had two children Brent and Janet.  Walt and Deanna divorced.  In 1981, Walt married Becky Presley in Bay Minette, AL.  They later divorced.  In 2008, Walt married Jan Butler.  She survives at the home they made together on their ranch outside of Coffeyville.

Walt served in the Army National Guard unit out of Coffeyville from 1955 until his discharge in 1963.  He belonged to the Masonic Lodge #102 in Coffeyville serving in many offices including Master.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale and had been a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Walt is survived by his wife Jan of the ranch, his son Brent (Dawn) Booth and daughter Janet (Larry) Bernd, who reside on the original family farm near Liberty, step-sons Nick (Tori) Butler of Tonganoxie, KS, Mike (Katie) Butler of Pittsburg, KS, & Adam (Jessica) Butler of Big Sandy, MT, 17 grandchildren:  Kayla (Tom) Angleton, Ryan (Jenn) Bernd, Colt (Kylie) Booth, Dakota (Emily) Booth, Chaneya (Tyler) Julich, Brittany (Kyle) Forkner, Caitlyn Bernd, Ethan, Olivia, Graham, Cassia, Sienna, Lila, Amara, Ava, Kase, & Jett Butler, 15 great-grandchildren and nephew Arthur Allen (Connie) Anderson of Edgerton, KS.  He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Vera Anderson, Verna Cranor, and Verda (Jeannie) Holland & best friend Sam Collins.

Walt was happiest when he was riding a horse checking on the cows in the pasture.  You never had to wonder what Walt was thinking because he was as plain spoken as any person you would ever meet.  He loved God, this country, and his family and friends fiercely.
