Wayne Felts, age 87, of Rural Liberty, Kansas died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home in rural Liberty, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas with the Reverend Bill Booe of the Liberty United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the FordWulfBruns Chapel.

The family has suggested memorials to the Liberty United Methodist Church or the Kansas Crippled Children and contributions may be left at the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Wayne was born October 14, 1925 in rural Liberty, Kansas to Frank and Bertha Hammond Felts. He grew up in the Liberty area and attended the Liberty High School. After High School Wayne entered the United States Navy on October 13, 1943 and served during World War II as a Gunners Mate Second Class on the U.S.S. Oconto until his honorable discharge on April 17, 1946.

On June 15, 1947 Wayne married Frances Adams in Coffeyville, Kansas where the couple made their home. In 1951 the couple moved back to the farm in rural Liberty, Kansas. Wayne was a farmer, and raised cattle and pigs before partnering with his sons Richard and Larry in the farming business until his retirement in 1990. Wayne was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church, Liberty rural Fire Department for over 30 years, Verdigris Valley Drainage District, Rural Water Board, 4H, Promenade Square Dance Club in Independence, Kansas and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife Frances of the home two sons Richard Wayne and wife Shirley Felts of rural Liberty, Kansas and Larry Dale and wife Ruth Felts also of rural Liberty, Kansas one daughter Mary Ann and husband Gary Schaplowsky of rural Coffeyville, Kansas ten grandchildren Mike and wife Patty Felts of Liberty, Kansas, Cindy and husband Darrell DeTar of rural Coffeyville, Kansas, Ryan and wife Tiffany Felts of Olathe, Kansas, Darren Felts of Liberty, Kansas, Kimberly and husband Mike Spillman of Liberty, Kansas, Kristi and husband Adam Ewing of Liberty, Kansas, Kelly and husband Mike Smasal of DeSoto, Kansas, Tommy and Cassie Felts of Gardner, Kansas, Brian and wife Krisa Schaplowsky of Coffeyville, Kansas and Kevin and wife Amie Schaplowsky of Edna, Kansas 18 great grandchildren two brothers Frank and wife Joan Felts of Wichita, Kansas and Bill and wife Virginia Felts of Afton, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Tommy Felts, two brothers Max and Dick Felts and three sisters Sylvia Phillips, Cecil Traxon, and Velma Long.

Wayne loved going on trips, farming, watching his cattle, fishing, camping, square dancing and attending grandchildrens 4H and sporting events.
