Wayne Guthrie Tongier died peacefully surrounded by his family on February 22, 2011 at CRMC. He was 89. He was the child of Russell and Effie Johnson Tongier and born on December 14, 1921. He was one of nine children. He attended schools in Coffeyville and Coffeyville Junior College. He worked for 40 plus years for Farmland Industries in the lab and as a pipefitter. As a youth, he enjoyed playing tennis. After surgery on his right arm, he taught himself to play with his left arm and played in several tournaments until he broke his ankle. He also played and coached in industrial softball leagues. His love of baseball was inspired by his uncle, Walter Johnson. He also bowled for several years. His greatest joy was going to Branson with his family. On July 9, 1944, he married his love, Charlotte Pfister. She preceded him in death. They were married almost 66 years. He is survived by a son, Randy and his wife, Jane of Lawrence, and daughters, Catherine Willis and Toni Weakley, and husband Walt both of Coffeyville. There are four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Glen of Coffeyville and Carl of Catonsville, MD. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church with a Rosary beginning at 10:30 a.m., under the direction of PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel.
