Wilda Blair

The life of Wilda H. Blair began on July 9, 1927, in West Plains, Missouri, as the offspring of Frank and Edith Ray Thomas. Wildas mother passed away at an early age, so she was raised by her father and loving aunts and cousins. Wilda attended school in West Plains, later moving to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when her father remarried. With the union of Frank and Irene Thomas, Wilda gained a brother, Michael Thomas, who still resides in Oklahoma City. The move to Oklahoma fortuitously led to Wildas introduction to a handsome young man who worked with her father by the name of Fred Paul Blair. They took an instant fancy to each other when Frank brought Fred home for dinner. Following World War II, Fred returned to Oklahoma City to marry Wilda on December 15, 1945. To this union two children were born Paula of Washington, D.C. and Fred Paul Jr. of Houston, Texas. Wilda devoted herself to her family as wife, homemaker, and mother. She was equally committed to the life and ministry of Sardis First Missionary Baptist Church where she served for many years as a Sunday school teacher and later as Superintendent. She also immensely enjoyed her service as a Deaconess where she faithfully prepared the communion table, took care of the vestments, and assisted in ushering new souls to Christ through baptism. Wildas greatest legacy was her sweet disposition and her commitment to live a life that demonstrated her Christian faith. She cared for her husband with selfless devotion as his health declined for several years before his passing in 2005. Her deep and abiding joy was evidenced in the unique bond she developed with each of her five granddaughters, who cherished their grandmothers love and wise counsel. Left to mourn Wildas passing are her children Paula and the Rev. Fred Blair, Jr., daughterinlaw Carla, and brother Michael Thomas. Wilda was blessed with five granddaughters: Mieke J. Perez husband W. Alex Perez, Makita R. Weaver, Oni K. Blair husband Chris D. Hensman, Kelli D. Blair, and Lauri R. Blair. She enjoyed the happy distinction of being greatgrandmother to Alex, Dominic, and Joshua Perez. She was also grateful for the many nieces and nephews that graced her life. A home going service will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church in Coffeyville, Ks. The Rev. Dr. Horn will officiate.
