William TaftBill Woods, 80, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Tuesday morning, November 17, 2009 at Windsor Place Care Center. Bill was born January 24, 1929 at Malvern, Arkansas to William Woods and Mary Katie DeBose Woods. He grew up in Arkansas and received his education there. In September, 1954, Bill was inducted into the US Army at San Diego, California. Two years later, he received his honorable discharge at Fort Hood, Texas. Bill held a job with the United States Secret Service at one time, but for most of his career was a sheet metal worker. He married Bessie Johnson on August 10, 1991 at Wichita, Kansas. The couple moved to Catoosa, Oklahoma for nine years before moving to Coffeyville. Bill was a member of the New Testament Holiness Church of Jesus Christ, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He loved watching TV, especiallyBonanza andGunsmoke. He is survived by his ex-wife, Bessie of rural Coffeyville; two sons, Reggie Woods and his wife, Serena, of San Diego and Dennis Woods and his wife, Fern, of Raleigh, North Carolina and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Penwell-Gabels Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Interment will be 12:30 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2009 at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas, under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory.
