Zelda Marguerette Powell age 90 of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away surrounded by family at Windsor Place Nursing Home.

Zelda was born July 27, 1930 at Coffeyville, Kansas to Clyde Hershal and Edna Eugenia (Wood) House.

She attended Coffeyville grade schools: McKinley, Whittier and Garfield grade schools, Roosevelt Junior High and Field Kindley High School, graduating in 1947. She later obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in May 1982.

On September 19, 1948 she married Dean Howard Powell at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, Coffeyville, Kansas. Following their marriage, they made their home in Coffeyville. In 1953, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, returning to Coffeyville in 1954. While in Albuquerque Mrs. Powell worked at Maisel's Trading Post in the turquoise jewelry section. In Coffeyville Mrs. Powell worked for Newberry's Department Store and later for Georges' Cafeteria. Mrs. Powell was the 4-H cooking leader for the Dearing Bee's, Girls Auxiliary Association Director, Twin Valley Association and GA Leader. She later worked in the Coffeyville Community College library.

Mrs. Powell was a former member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church, member of First Southern Baptist Church and Montgomery County Genealogical Society. Mrs. Powell enjoyed working with genealogy and crocheting.

In 1973, Mrs. Powell's daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Gerald Sjolander were killed in an automobile accident. Mr. and Mrs. Powell raised their two granddaughters, Angela and Kimberly.

Mrs. Powell is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Hershal and Edna Eugenia (Wood) House; husband, Dean Howard Powell and her daughter, Linda Sue Sjolander.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her siblings, Marlene Hillman of McMinnville, Oregon, Marilyn Meek (husband Charles) of Poteau, Oklahoma, Duane House of Seguin, Texas; her sons, Roger Powell (wife Sandra) of Independence, Kansas, and Duane Powell (wife Brenda) of Coffeyville, Kansas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Angela (Sjolander) Tickle (husband James); Kimberly Sue Sjolander; Melissa (Powell) Malotte; David Powell (wife Shawna); Latisha (Powell) Wood (husband Darrin), Brian Powell (wife Cassandra); Jennifer Powell (fiance Nick Akins); Elizabeth Powell (fiancé Adam Lubbers). Her survivors include 18 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Private Family Funeral services will be held at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 11 am. with Rich Jenkins officiating, services will be streamed live via Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel Facebook page.   Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm at the chapel.  The family has requested memorial contributions be made payable to American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the chapel.  To leave an online condolence or share a memory visit www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com
