Obituary Zola V. Asbury Edna resident Zola V. Asbury, age 90, died Thursday, July 13, 2006 in Oswego. Zola was born November 12, 1915 to Ray and Harriett Palmer Elwood in Smith County, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Smith County, Kansas. During WWII she worked in a military hospital in Topeka, Kansas as a surgical aid. After the war, she returned home to Smith County where she met Howard Asbury. They married in March of 1947 in Topeka, Kansas. They made their home in Smith Center, Kansas and later moved to Kansas City Missouri. In 1954 they moved to Edna, Kansas where Mr. Asbury owned and operated the John Deere Implement Co. until his retirement in 1976. Howard and Zola enjoyed working on their farm and gardening. She was a member of the Elm Christian Church in Edna, Kansas. She loved quilting with the church women. Zola also enjoyed reading and gardening. She loved visits from her granddaughters and other family and friends. Survivors include a son Larry W. Asbury of the home, a daughter Lea Ann Stanley of Bernice, Oklahoma; two granddaughters Cindy Neises and husband David of Independence, Kansas and Tina Cole of Dewey, Oklahoma. There are two great grandsons Derek and Cory Reyes of Independence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard in 1976, a sister Vogene Baugher in March 2006. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 18, 2006 in the North Edna Cemetery. Reverend Milton Jones will officiate. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Penwell-Gabel Ford, Wulf Bruns Funeral Home to sign the guest book.
